Finding belief in moderateness in the nuclear age

Nuclear energy has given life to earth
Nuclear energy has given life to earth

Nuclear technology is not bad in itself.  We have understood the sun and the stars, and in a way, have harnessed the same power to a lesser extent.  We have controlled fission, and are yet to understand ways to control fusion for peaceful purposes.  The insistence on using solar energy to fulfill the requirements for electricity is our next best option.  However, with the existing political situation regarding North Korea and the US, it is once again time to remember the old foe of mankind, the ongoing self-made threat of human intelligence.  What is it?  Yes, it is the existence of the knowledge and the means to build nuclear weapons.  The truly disconcerting fact is this: With so much power for annihilation, we have simultaneously existing, such poor leadership and judgment.  There is the legitimate basis for worry.  There is also the need for finding solutions.

Is it possible to have development without taking sides?

Development through united effort is a choice
Development through united effort is a choice

One would normally consider the taking of sides as being counter-intuitive to the idea of development.  Whatever resources we have, we would want to use them in a planned, organized, and united effort to get the best possible results.  There is any number of examples of this.  In a family, when the father, mother, and children are able to work together toward maintaining peace it helps everyone.  In a classroom of students, it only takes a few to disrupt the session for everyone.  Those who do are deprived of the answers, and those who wish to learn are also deprived of their opportunity.  Furthermore, it brings no joy to the teacher or lecturer to have to focus on disciplining some students and be distracted from teaching.  When a surgery is being performed, is that the time for nurses and doctors to have arguments over anesthesia or surgical instruments?  There are many examples which prove that success or development depends upon unity. Can today’s leaders improve our future by making more positive predictions?

Predictions with modesty
Predictions with modesty

Predictions are humanly impossible and are equally common.  Yes, as rare as they should be, they, in fact, form a part of everyday speech.  Whenever someone says, I will do this and I will do that, we are in a sense indulging in a prediction.  It is our certainty about life itself and our ability to do as we wish that causes us to say such things.  Not to live in morbid fear, but, we truly do not even know the end of a day at its start.  The same is for our leaders.  We may wish for things to end in a certain way, according to our chosen purpose and with our destination in mind.  However, there is no guarantee this can happen.  Even so, it is not the kind of uncertainty any human being wants to live with.  It will be like living with the proverbial sword of Damocles hanging over our heads.  We all have authority within us – some more than others – and our predictions do have power, as we determine the course we take based on some imagination, some opinion, and as much knowledge as possible.  What can we do to improve our future given the power we do have? 1 – Aadhar – The belief in the possibility of a good, honest society

Aadhar is the ambition for fundamental social change

To avoid distraction, I have placed a note in the footer. Please read it first, if you wish, to gain perspective about this presentation.1

The nature of humans and the nature of government: It would seem that by now we would be absolutely clear about these two matters.  As it turns out, we are not.  Moreover, there is no one clear answer on these issues.  {The Aadhar instrument fits uniquely in these concerns.}  Beliefs vary.  There is a belief that human beings are basically good.  This is one school of thought.  The other school of thought says humans are basically bad.  It is obvious, both these views about the basic nature of humanity are founded on extremes of understanding.  These are generalizations that have been made, probably under the influence of the heaviness of many experiences.  As it is, human nature is not so easy to classify as good or bad.  It is not black or white.

Crisis of democracy – social decline through politicization, and insistence on freedoms and rights

It is easier to answer the question, what is democracy as compared to why is democracy.  Yes, why is democracy favored and touted as the ideal principle for governance, even though its failure was anticipated right from the time of Plato.  As it is practically impossible for all the people to get together and make a decision on the subject of governance, the leaders at the time a nation has its beginning are the ones responsible for making the decision about what form of government will take the nation forward.  The empowerment of individuals led to the natural consequence of growth and popularizing of the idea of democracy, but it also would be the very reason for the weakening of visible aspects of government.  The society that is governed by democracy is itself a victim of the idea[1,2], and so is the government that has emerged out of that society.
