Society

Why do humans come together to form a group, community, or a collective whole? What ideas, needs, wants, and objectives bind them? Eventually, humans always attempt to form a society to function as individuals and together.

Finding belief in moderateness in the nuclear age

Nuclear energy has given life to earth
Nuclear energy has given life to earth

Nuclear technology is not bad in itself.  We have understood the sun and the stars, and in a way, have harnessed the same power to a lesser extent.  We have controlled fission, and are yet to understand ways to control fusion for peaceful purposes.  The insistence on using solar energy to fulfill the requirements for electricity is our next best option.  However, with the existing political situation regarding North Korea and the US, it is once again time to remember the old foe of mankind, the ongoing self-made threat of human intelligence.  What is it?  Yes, it is the existence of the knowledge and the means to build nuclear weapons.  The truly disconcerting fact is this: With so much power for annihilation, we have simultaneously existing, such poor leadership and judgment.  There is the legitimate basis for worry.  There is also the need for finding solutions.

Is it possible to have development without taking sides?

Development through united effort is a choice
Development through united effort is a choice

One would normally consider the taking of sides as being counter-intuitive to the idea of development.  Whatever resources we have, we would want to use them in a planned, organized, and united effort to get the best possible results.  There is any number of examples of this.  In a family, when the father, mother, and children are able to work together toward maintaining peace it helps everyone.  In a classroom of students, it only takes a few to disrupt the session for everyone.  Those who do are deprived of the answers, and those who wish to learn are also deprived of their opportunity.  Furthermore, it brings no joy to the teacher or lecturer to have to focus on disciplining some students and be distracted from teaching.  When a surgery is being performed, is that the time for nurses and doctors to have arguments over anesthesia or surgical instruments?  There are many examples which prove that success or development depends upon unity. How compulsion and desperation are driving the conversation toward extremes

Conversation could liberate and empower if it has true power
Conversation could liberate and empower if it has true power

A conversation has the power to liberate a human being.  It has the power to set free the mind from bondage.  Even one exchange of ideas is able to give a new direction to the thinking of a person, or the chance of realization.  Why would anyone want to do so?  The real reason has to be a concern for the other person, or on a larger scale, a concern for society.  When conversations emanate from such concern and are also able to provide hope to others, there is indeed the prospect of growth. What kind of conversations can truly produce change in society?

Conversations that produce real change
Conversations that produce real change

Conversations are the most powerful tool to bring change in society. In a civil society, it is the only acceptable tool.  It is true, we have to make an assumption about a society being civil in the first place.  Aside from a limited personal experience and association, a very cursory reflection on the whole of human society shows that being civil is possible.  However, to remain civil is truly a difficult thing for human society as a whole.  After a point, there is only a pretense.  Once the secrets of society are exposed to its members and those beyond it, this civility resembles nothing more than hypocrisy.  The longer the pretense carries on, the more the disappointment honest ones are bound to feel.  There is a desire for change, but violence can never be an acceptable instrument for it.  Truly, violence does not bring social change; it only performs a butchering of society and damages its members.  One must hope in conversations as the means for change, till there is no more reason for hope. 1 – Aadhar – The belief in the possibility of a good, honest society

Aadhar card reader logo
Aadhar is the ambition for fundamental social change

To avoid distraction, I have placed a note in the footer. Please read it first, if you wish, to gain perspective about this presentation.1

The nature of humans and the nature of government: It would seem that by now we would be absolutely clear about these two matters.  As it turns out, we are not.  Moreover, there is no one clear answer on these issues.  {The Aadhar instrument fits uniquely in these concerns.}  Beliefs vary.  There is a belief that human beings are basically good.  This is one school of thought.  The other school of thought says humans are basically bad.  It is obvious, both these views about the basic nature of humanity are founded on extremes of understanding.  These are generalizations that have been made, probably under the influence of the heaviness of many experiences.  As it is, human nature is not so easy to classify as good or bad.  It is not black or white.
